Family Day

A great event for all ages, this year’s Family Day, “Cheese Pleeze!,” will be bigger and better than ever before! The program will be held on Jewell Street, at the end of Pine Street in Cornwall, where participants will have a view of the Milking Devon cattle which graze in Coltsfoot Valley. A Jersey cow from Local Farm in Cornwall will be present, and participants can try their hand at “milking” a model cow. A variety of dairy products will be available for tasting; ice cream will be made in a steam-powered ice cream maker; and participants can make butter by hand. In the afternoon, children will be able to make a delicious dairy dessert with CHS Board member and professional baker Susan Saccardi of Suzie’s Sweets.

In addition, Joseph Brien of Lost Art Workshops will lead a hands-on workshop in which kids will  make wooden milking stools. Participants must be at least 8 years of age and accompanied by an adult. Children can work individually or in teams. There will be two milking stool sessions: the first from 10 a.m. to 12 noon; the second from 1 to 3 p.m. There is no charge for this workshop; attendance is limited to ten children or teams at each session. Please RSVP by calling the Cornwall Historical Society at (860) 672-0505 or emailing info@cornwallhistoricalsociety.orgPlease note early registration for this part of the day's events is required; when registering, please indicate your preference for the morning or afternoon session.

Family Day also will include Cornwall fiddler Rachel Gall and singer-songwriter Lydia MacDavid on guitar as they perform farm favorites, lead sing-alongs and teach barn dances.

Refreshments will be served.
Free, donations welcome.
