The sapling was presented by J. Callendar Heminway through the Cornwall Historical Society and was dedicated to the memory of Lewis Stiles Gannett. Another descendant of the Charter Oak was presented to Cornwall in 1976, commemorating the country’s bicentennial celebrations. It was planted at Mohawk State Forest.

A Pin Oak tree was planted on the Green in 1902 to commemorate a Constitutional Convention held in Hartford. Seedlings were given to representatives from all of the state’s towns. A survey in 2002 found 74 surviving trees, including the one in Cornwall, which was measured at a height of 67 feet and a circumference of 69 inches.

A chestnut oak was planted on the Green in 1922 in memory of Winthrop D. Smith by the Men’s Club; it died and was replaced by another oak in 1924.

Most recently, in 1999, Cornwall planted a tree on the Green in dedication to the “people and community spirit that helped Cornwall recover from the July 10, 1989 tornado.”
